Artist's Description
Side view of a poke sallet flower. Phytolacca americana AKA Poke Sallet or Pokeweed and several other names is a plant native to North America most common in the east and south of the United States. The young leaves are eaten as a pot herb when properly cooked but are toxic when fresh as opposed to a salad green. The flower will turn into a dark purple berry toxic to humans but eaten by birds. The flower is about 5mm (0.2in) wide.
The image was taken with a Canon 6D using a 4x microscope objective with 80mm of extension and light from an LED goose-neck. Exp. 1/30sec. 28 frames focus stacked with Helicon Focus 8.
About Daniel Reed

I have been drawing and taking photographs for as long as I can remember. A lot has changed over the years but the satisfaction I gain from creating a pleasing rendering of a compelling subject has remained the same. My subjects tend to be the things I know well, flora, fauna and scenic views of the southeastern United States, especially from Tennessee where I live. However, no subject I find interesting is off limits. The photographs here are mostly "as shot". Except for focus stacked images there is seldom is anything done to the original image other than tweaking the white balance and some sharpening. A few are cropped or otherwise modified. The drawings are generally subjective views not meant to emulate photographs. Thank you...
