I know little about John Hearn beyond that he worked with my grandfather, Arthur Reed who was a concrete contractor and may have lived in my grandfather's home at some time in the 1930s or 1940s. Since my family is white and lived in the segregated south this has always intrigued me. I would know nothing of John Hearn except for my aunt Irene who left me with a group photograph of the work crew with no one identified save Mr. Hearn and my grandfather. Apparently my aunt had great respect for Mr. Hearn. In 1961 my father and a man named Sam Hearn were part of a 200 man search team looking for a three year old boy who had wandered away from home. Sam Hearn found the boy just before nightfall but had my father bring the boy home and left with out taking any credit.
I have been drawing and taking photographs for as long as I can remember. A lot has changed over the years but the satisfaction I gain from creating a pleasing rendering of a compelling subject has remained the same. My subjects tend to be the things I know well, flora, fauna and scenic views of the southeastern United States, especially from Tennessee where I live. However, no subject I find interesting is off limits. The photographs here are mostly "as shot". Except for focus stacked images there is seldom is anything done to the original image other than tweaking the white balance and some sharpening. A few are cropped or otherwise modified. The drawings are generally subjective views not meant to emulate photographs. Thank you...
